The dynamic persona Andrés Torres is at the helm of two interconnected projects that combine cooking, sustainability, humanitarian aid, and war reporting. As founder and president of the NGO Global Humanitaria, Torres defends children’s food security, education, and rights across ten countries and provides emergency relief in areas afflicted by armed conflict and natural disasters, facilitating survivors’ access to food, water, sanitation, healthcare, shelter, and basic education.
At the same time, Torres is owner and head chef of the Casa Nova restaurant in Penedés (Barcelona). Casa Nova’s radical praxis of genuine sustainability and self-sufficiency has earned Torres a Michelin Green Star (2023). A portion of the restaurant’s profits fund Global Humanitaria. The restaurant also incorporates sustainable cooking practices and recipes based on know-how acquired from the communities wherein Global Humanitaria is engaged.
